Word Study
During Word Study, the children explore patterns in words. We use "Words Their Way" and follow a student centered model where the children choose their own activities off a menu of choices. In my current classroom, there are 5 groups so the work is differentiated to the learner. They are encouraged to use accountable talk to discuss and extend their ideas about word patterns. Here is a very high example of learners, completely unscripted, discussing a complicated pattern using our scaffolding of "See it. Say it. Does it make sense?"
