Units of Inquiry -- MEF International School - Kindergarten

Growth Cycles -- Presentation The children present their learning during a parent science fair at the end of the unit. They chose their topic, researched and then presented on the life cycle of a human.	Growth Cycles - Presentations The children created their own presentation boards with minimal direction. These girls explored plant growth cycles and demonstrated their learning by expanding their presentation to include many different forms of plants.	Materials - our mind map We work together to mind map our thoughts during circle time. Then we work as a group to find concrete examples to use as visuals.
Homes -- Real world inquiry The boys inquire into homes and buildings by visiting an Istanbul park -- Minaturk. They explored materials in a real life context.	Jobs -- Little Vets The children explored different jobs through play based inquiry. These little vets managed to save the donkey, but he needed surgery.	Jobs - Parent Experts We invited parents in to talk about their jobs. The father who worked for a gum factory was a big hit and the children played factory worker for days in the playground.
Jobs -- planning The children planned solutions for problems they saw in the school. These children wanted to change how the water was given out during lunch. They gave each other jobs to do.	Jobs -- Planning into action. This group wants children to be quieter during lunch. Here they are talking about how to implement it.	Stories -- painting toys The children paint wooden toys at the Istanbul toy museum. Field trips are an important part of understanding our central idea. The children are creating toys so they can make their own stories later.
