Reading Response:

little blue and little yellow
The children worked with paint to explore how colours change after listening to “Little Blue and Little Yellow” by Leo Lionni.
They are practicing reading comprehension strategies by exploring new information.

Hey, Little Ant
The children were tasked to pick a side based on this story and persuasively argue why or why not the boy should step on the little ant.
This is based on the Reader's Workshop unit: Writing About Reading.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear,
What Do You See?
Our class presentation for Reading Week. Two of these children had never spoken in English before we began this book. They continued to read it for the rest of the year to their classmates.
![]() Playdoh WordsWriting with different mediums is important in the beginning of the year. We practice letter formation and sight words before we begin to build sentences. | ![]() Picture WalksReading is not only about decoding and sounds, but also comprehension. The children examine books to understand the content and messages. | ![]() Independent ReadingThe children choose their own books and learn to read for pleasure. |

![]() WritingChildren enter our class with various backgrounds. So we start our writing program with drawing/free writing, then begin to use sentence frames and sight words, and finish with longer paragraphs. | ![]() WritingOver the course of the year, words become sentences, sentences become longer and longer. Soon, there might even be a little story or sustained text form. | ![]() English Language LearnersWe encourage children to speak by giving think time, listening and creating opportunities to gain confidence. |
![]() Brown Bear, Brown BearA performance during Reading Week becomes a class favourite. We work with many children who are ELL and they loved this book. | ![]() The Three Little PigsUsing known stories allows children to explore text forms and expression since they already understand the main idea. |
